Banana Nutella Bites

So, this is not exactly a recipe. It’s more in the category of an inspired idea but I realized that I haven’t posted any “kid” recipes lately and this is my daughter’s current favorite snack. To call this a snack is to admit that I do not always serve my daughter foods of optimal nutritional value. I should probably call this a dessert, but a little chocolate never hurt anyone!  Anyway, this snack came about when I was searching for something fun to serve my daughter for an afternoon snack and I just happened to notice a jar of Nutella sitting next to the bananas. This could be made marginally more nutritious by substituting granola for the sprinkles topping, but what would be the fun in that? Also, my daughter loves adding the sprinkles on top by herself and I like to get her involved in cooking whenever possible, so let the fun begin!

Banana Nutella Bites

Ingredients:

1 banana, sliced in 1 inch thick slices

2 Tablespoons Nutella (or more, depending on how decadent you want to be)

multicolored sprinkles, granola or other topping

1. Spread about 1 teaspoon of Nutella on each banana slice. This can be a bit tricky since the Nutella tends to slide off the slimy bananas. I’ve found it works best to just try to spread it with a single stroke to prevent the Nutella from becoming gummy.

2. Place Nutella topped bananas on a plate and let your child add the sprinkles or other topping themselves. Serve with cold milk!
